Deportivo Armenio (1) – Atlanta (0): Shocker of the weekend

An underdog Armenio took on Atlanta and won keeping its defence tight on a non challenging affair.

It was a deflated and unsuccesful game for “Cacho” Sialle’s team as it failed to win this weekend and keep the lead with Almirante Brown and Brown de Adrogué. With slight modifications on the formation, Atlanta started out with its typical faux 4-3-3 formation and after a while switched to an unsuccesful 4-4-2 formation with Maraschi as midfielder. The signals of low levelled gameplay had been lingering since last week’s game against Deportivo Español.

For Armenio it had been difficult as well: after having been the best (or most numbered) reinforced team in the Primera B this season, Armenio had been weighted down in the category after two defeats in the last two weeks after losing to Barracas Central and previously to Comunicaciones.

It started as a tight contest with little initial action from the goalkeepers, in a plan where both teams were stuck while trying to get to goal with many fouls, few shots and only two clear cut situations: a header from Fabricio Pedrozo for Atlanta, and a missed kick by Buongiorno.

On the second half Atlanta almost scored with Maraschi heading in a cross, but Yamil Possi (the referee) annulled the goal as his lineman was signalling an offside player at the seventeenth minute. At the 25th minute on the second half Armenio scored through Federico Ortiz López, on a rebounded cross shot from the right sector and went back and forth several times.

On the 4th week, Armenio will play against Defensores de Belgrano whereas Atlanta will visit Flandria in Jáuregui.
