The former Independiente de Avellaneda and Chacarita defender returns to the club he emerged from.
Paez, now 39 years old, returns to the Merlo side after having left the club in 1994 to join Independiente de Avellaneda.
Although still in danger of relegation, the Merlo team lead by Ariel Zárate has managed to achieve some impressive results including last week’s tie against category leader Defensores de Belgrano (0-0) and will need a strong man to lead the Merlo defense into the second half of the tournament.
“Satanás” as he has been nicknamed due to his tenacious defending and over-the-top character, has played for teams such as Independiente (Primera División), Deportivo Español (Primera B), Talleres (Córdoba, Argentino A), Deportivo Quito (Ecuador), Olimpo (Bahía Blanca, Primera División), Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel), Atlético (Tucumán, Nacional B), Gimnasia y Esgrima (Jujuy, Nacional B), Chacarita Juniors (Nacional B), and Ferro Carril Oeste (Nacional B). He has played over 500 games and scored 25 goals in his career.
He has started training this week and will be available to play at the beginning of July after the ending of the Copa América.
